Kagi.com Welcome Page Source Code

Compared with Google's page source, this source code is really neat and tidy!

HN didn't like the URL, but here it is:

I think this is just the result of Google (particularly search) being very optimized for size/performance with little weight given to readability. It's probably minified or compiled from some other representation.

How is that neat and tidy? Looks like the usual "put everything on one long line!" except for some inline CSS of someone who didn't get that memo

it's not clear what the user has to pay for...

does this search engine have its own index or what?

in principle you can make money on a paid search engine but not with this model of services offered to users

FWIW as a counterpoint, I’ve been giving them money for 2 years now and every cent has been worth it a hundred times over. A shame that effective search is now a luxury item, but it is what it is.

i want to understand the meaning you put into the term "luxury search" in relation to this project

if this search engine does not have its own index then the only mechanism it can use is to filter the search results of other search engines

this means that this search engine cannot give you more information than is contained in the index of the donor search engines

what exactly are you paying for?
