Ask HN: You are posting too fast."

I see this warning periodically and it blocks me from posting the comment I wrote. This is very frustrating. This feature should give a warning BEFORE you write a long comment reply right?

FWIW I made a habit to cmd-C any long text I write before I submit anything. Years of lost comments taught me the hard way, lol.

I think there are also "form saver" browser extensions that can back up form data automatically for you in case of a failed submission/browser crash.

HN is old-school and the UI doesn't seem to a big priority. I wouldn't count on it changing much... people here like it that way.

I've come to love the old school UI - makes a refreshing change from the slick, clean designs we see elsewhere.

I write all my posts in a local git repository before I post. After that, it is pushed to a thousand repos around the world. Or you could use some kind of post-it application.

Usually you can go back and then cut and paste the file to a text editor and then resubmit later.

Of course my friend YOShInOn does a lot of posting for me but even then error recovery is a bitch. There was that time HN went down and was giving everyone 500 errors and dang sent me an email mentioning that my script had tried to post something 900 times. It reminds me... I need to implement exponential backoff!

Does this apply to everyone or only accounts that have been "yoked" by a moderator?

In theory, perhaps.

But HN has no "Unlimited Comments" plan, to upsell you to. Nor ads, that they want you to view more of. Nor feature-rich software, that they want you to buy.
